What does The Mercy Kids Foundation's Child Sponsorship Program provide?

The Mercy Kids Foundation provides therapy, education, and services to kids with disabilities in rural Nicaragua. Through our sponsorship program, we hope to connect each child and family to a sponsor to cover the costs of their care at the Center and help meet their spiritual, physical, education, emotional, and social needs.

$90 a month covers the full cost for a child to receive weekly therapy and care at The Mercy Center. Those funds cover the salaries of our therapists and staff, the cost of transporting these kids to and from the Center, the meals we provide at the Center, and the materials needed to operate the Center.

What can I expect as a sponsor?

At any level of sponsorship, you will have the opportunity to communicate with your child through letter writing. You will receive at least two to three updates a year on your child along with two to three updates a year on The Mercy Center as a whole.

How much of my donation is given directly to the child?

We do not directly give money to children or families. The Mercy Kids works closely with children and caregivers to determine any need outside of normal, weekly care at the Center (emergency medical services, for instance).

Why does The Mercy Kids sponsorship cost so much more than other programs?

The Mercy Kids is not like many typical sponsorship programs because our program focuses on providing often-costly care for kids with disabilities. $90 a month covers at least 10 hours of one-on-one time for each child, which is incredibly inexpensive in comparison to similar care in the US.

How long does my sponsorship last?

Sponsorship is an ongoing commitment that lasts as long as you are able. If your child graduates from The Mercy Kids Foundation and you would like to continue supporting our work, we will match you with another child.
